University of Nairobi
The School of Computing & Informatics at the University of Nairobi is involved in language technology research. Some application type of work has been done on several local languages; these are Swahili, Gikuyu, Dholuo, Kikamba and Ekegussi. A small amount of data has been collected.
Automatic diacritic correction research emanated from challenges encountered when collecting data for Gikuyu.
The language group is involved in research and is keen on developing and making available digital resources required for the language such as good quality word processors, TTS, ASR and Machine translators, etc. Part of the group is also keen on exploring development of language applications for mobile phones.
